Welcome to VOTE FOR MANNY

The purpose of this blog is to get Manny Ramirez elected as a STARTER to the 2009 All Star Game in St. Louis?
WHY?

To highlight the silliness that are the MLB rules towards PED users as well as their "head in the sand" approach to this situation. Rather than confront it head-on, MLB is choosing to do nothing and simply hope there are three higher vote getters in the NL OF.

Click here to VOTE FOR MANNY!

As of 5/26/09, Manny's totals:

  1. Ryan Braun Brewers 663,164
  2. Alfonso Soriano Cubs 545,354
  3. Carlos Beltran Mets 476,843
  4. Manny Ramirez Dodgers 442,763 (-34,080)
  5. Mike Cameron Brewers 432,034
  6. Raul Ibanez Phillies 399,969
Remember, vote early and often!

  2. Great idea! I also voted for him in the Home Run Derby contest!

  3. I would be with you, but I a lready voted for him 25 times 2 weeks ago. Good Luck though!

  4. I think the intent here is to show what a joke MLB is and what a total jerk Manny is. If that is the inten then yes I will vote.

  5. Raul Ibanez has a mis-shapen head, he does not deserve to be an All Star. Also, he has the stink of Philly all over him. I've already voted for Manny 20+ times and will continue to do so for the next month.

  6. I'd rather smash a fifth of Johnny Blue and squeeze the broken glass in my hands than vote the juicer into the All-Star Game.

If I could build a time machine I'd go back to 1919, take Kennesaw Mountain Landis with me and have him fuck up all the cheating, 'roid-addled morons.

I can only hope this blog is an ironical attempt at gallows roid humor. If not then may SkyNet start the countdown!!!

  7. This site is awesome! Funny sh!t. Some of you don't get it...and that's ok. I dont think he should be in the ASG but if MLB allows it. Why not. If he gets voted in. I wonder what MLB will do?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Great idea. I never voted for Allstar games before this, because it's one huge popularity contest. This is a wonderful idea to expose the ASG for what it is. Go manny!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Everyone gets why he is doing it. It doesn't change the fact that it is stupid and if Manny gets voted in then a more deserving player does not get to play in the ASG

  10. I do not agree with drugs but the reality is quickly becoming not who is using and who is not but who has been caught and who has not yet been caught. PED's are so wide spread all the wat down to cycycling and NASCAR I think most of us are sick of the hypocrisy of it all. The only reason we have the current rules we have is because the government want's to run baseball along with everything else in this country. If the owners and players union wanted it cleaned up, it would be cleaned up. The reality in contrast is that "chick's and dudes love the long ball" The sport is currently about sheer entertainment value and generating revenue. Exibit A: the McGuire/Sosa year of the longball almost single handedly brought baseball numbers back following a strike shortened season. Doesn't make it right, just helps make sense of the current situation.

  11. Sure, ban Manny from the ASG, but hey, all the trainers and coaches and managers who knew what was happening and conveniently ignored it are golden, right? After all, we can't *prove* that a guy who managed those gigantic, pock-marked, injury-ridden freaks for ten years actually *knew* anything, right? Let's put all the onus on those dirty, nasty, morally-bankrupt players!!!

  12. Manny is a joke and doesn't deserve to be in the all star game. If he made it to the game, I would go wearing some Manny Being Busted items.

  16. Drugs, PEDs, Steroids, whatever! Manny Ramirez is the best pure hitter in baseball. Yes, I said baseball as in all of baseball which includes Albert Puljous who was also mentioned in the report but isn't man enough to admit it and take his punishment. Where I am from that is called being a p***y! Oh by the way, I think I forgot to mention that The Yankees suck!

  21. Manny is a self absorbed brat who has little regard for baseball fans and kids- his attitude in Boston and his blatant disregard for league rules pertaining to drug use makes that obvious and should no way be considered for All star ranking!

    ReplyDelete
  22. When I heard about this, I was afraid it was somebody actually serious about thinking Manny deserves to be in the ASG... but seeing the site for what it is, it's pretty funny. Manny in the All Star Games makes EVERY bit as much sense as the winner of an exhibition game earning homefield advantage for their league in the World Series... I mean, 162 games don't mean DIDDLY, compared to an exhibition that's supposed to be played for fun and to showcase fan faves... So hey, I'm good with it!

    ReplyDelete
  23. you should all go to shit, manny is going nowhere and if he stays at 4th he shouldn't even be part of the NL team, his presence in the all star game would only make the whole all star thing more absurd

    ReplyDelete
  24. Juan Pierre is batting over .400 in Manny's absence. He's not a great power hitter, but that guy deserves some consideration for the All Star game. You won't find a harder working player in the game.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Love the site, love the idea. MLB has handled the steroids issue about as poorly as they possibly could have. They also created the ridiculous home field advantage rule for the All-Star game. I'm a Cubs fan and if my Cubs end up in the World Series (not likely, I know), our best chance at home field advantage is to have Manny in the lineup at the All Star game!

Also...check out Sandybunker.com for all things golf! Haha...had to drop a plug in

  26. Manny is a victim, kind of reminds me of Ferris Bueller.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I have made my votes and hope he gets in - only so this ridiculousness of fan voting for All Stars goes away

    ReplyDelete
  28. Fans should vote in the players, after all this is the only opportunity for us as fans to choose. I pay for season tickets, give me the choice to choose who I want to see in the ASG! Support MANNY!!

  31. love it!! Can we get a "voteforjcromero.com" site up, too. Hell, let's get McGwire, Bonds, and the rest of the roid boys in too. Let's make it a roid-star game. Between innings everybody drop trow and McNamee can come buy and shoot everybody up instead of the pitcher taking his 8 warmup pitches. Just make sure he puts the needles in an old rusty beer can when he's done.

I'll bet anything that the majority of the moralizers in the comments voted for Mac or Bonds or Clemens for the ASG at least once even though their eyes and their common sense were telling them that they weren't clean. I wonder if any coaches or trainers at this year's ASG worked with one of those guys (or Giambi or ARod, etc.) in the past?

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think this is a dum idea...I cant belive you are trying to vote Manny into the allstar game. You have so many other real players out there that are drug free...that work hard and play hard and you want to vote in this pice of crap that uses drugs and cheats the game of baseball. I hope he sits at home and watches it like he should. And if he gets caught again I hope he is kicked out of the league...FOREVER.....

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think it's a great idea, I think they should really open it all up this year....lets even go so far as to have folks like Pete Rose toss the first pitch, maybe Jose Conseco can be the honorary home plate ump...lets not forget to add the clem and mcgurie as honorary umps as well. If they really want a great pitch for the idea let's alow BALCO and bonds in to the mix in the concession stand end of the game. Thy can be in charge of the JUICE POPS. Get back to reality friend........

    ReplyDelete
  39. You know this whole thing about all star games is stupid. They already have ways of honoring the best players. Durg usage should be stopped, period. Suspend or even ban the player. Hell, I keep reading about Pete Rose. He didn't even use steroids and he was banned for life just because he bet on baseball. The best example, How many chances did Darryl Strawberry get? So what if Manny used steriods. Don't suspend him for 50 games, suspend him for a season or 2 wihout pay. I bet he'll change his mind not to use.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Great Idea and Post!!...The bloggers over at FoxSports.com have given you a link backin' up yer idea on this...

  41. I love it and badly hope Manny starts in the All-Star game. Dont care about steroids anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Don't be ridiculous and give Manny any more of the spotlight. It will go to his head and will probably show up at the All Star Game. Don't his fans understand why he went on a unbelievable tear at the end of last year? Please don't give him the satisfaction.

  44. Bud Selig is the real culprit. How can you have ZERO rules about steroids during the Bonds/McGwire/Sosa years and sit back doing nothing while tickets sell, but only step up and "fix" the problem once MLB is caught by the courts and congress. What a joke. Manny is the latest fall guy, and the media loves it because Manny already has a bad reputation in the eyes of many fans. Frankly I am glad he is so high in the all star voting because so long as there are enough fans who enjoy watching Manny it's all good because the whole sport is a big pile of hypocrisy anyway.

If you want a truly ironical website you should start a movement to get Bud Selig into the homerun contest, since he is largely responsible for perpetuating the homerun/steroid era by turning a blind eye for so many years. Funny how an owner of a team became the CEO of baseball, what happened to having a guardian of the sport who is neither pro-owner or pro-player, but pro-baseball? I guess that went out the window when the owners fired Fay Vincent and appointed one of their own. When will we start holding owners, or better yet the commissioner accountable for the steroid problem? Suspend Selig without pay!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I tried to vote and the system says that I am ineligible. Has MLB decided that you can't vote for Manny or that this site has been banned ?

    ReplyDelete
  46. If Manny gets to the all-star game they should take the vote away from the fans.

    ReplyDelete
  47. You've got to be kidding, right? Either that or your on drugs. Oops I forgot Manny's the one on DRUGS. Doesn't anyone remember how he quit on the Red Sox. He sucks man.

  49. Kennisaw Mountain Landis was a racist who did all he could to keep blacks from playing in the MLB. Don't ever mention that KKK-card carrying sob in the context of fairness or rule-enforcement.

As for Manny, long as we forgive Petite, Giambi and assorted other "favorites" I forgive Manny. It's either about cheating or it's about who you like vs. who you don't.

Manny probably juiced, but like Ken Caminitti said before he died and Canseco afterwards, 3/4ths of the MLB was jacked, so stop the withchunts.

Manny belongs in the All Star Game. And Bud Selig along with every manager/owner/sycophant fanboy-whiteboy sportswriter that covered for all their heroes should be forced to sit in the corner with dunce-hats and plates of milk and cookies because these morons are as much to blame as the users and dealers themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  50. A totally great idea what a better way to show baseball up for the hypocrisy it has mired itself in.

I can't decide though is Bud Selig more like Sergeant Shultz ( I know nothing absolutely nothing ) Or Claude Rains ( Shocked, Shocked to find steroids in baseball )

  51. The all-star voting is a joke anyway. Only the most popular players get elected for the most part no matter how good they are so I am totally cool with this. Let the world know that MLB has no shame. As a Dodger fan, I would recommend that fans also vote for Juan Pierre (see http://voteforpierre.blogspot.com). He has done an awesome job since Manny has been suspended. Pierre truly has an all-star attitude: He never gripes and is a true team player. This would be a great contrast with him and Manny on the starting all-star team. Would truly make MLB look like idiots with Drug Man's replacement on the field with him.

Note: You need to write-in Juan Pierre on the All-Star ballot which means you can only click two boxes amongst the outfielders on the ballot. For Dodger fans this may mean dropping Ethier or Kemp but, honestly, they haven't done a whole lot lately. Pierre is much more deserving.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I'm a Padre fan which makes me a de facto Dodger/Manny hater. However, I respect Manny's abilities and when he "wants" to play I sure do enjoy watching him hit.

Having said that....THIS IS A GREAT IDEA!

The all-star game is a total sham to begin with...all the evidence needed is Adrian Gonzalez's current rankings for NL 1st basemen. His lack of votes shows how weak of an exhibition this is so let's stop crying for Raul Ibanez: he knows he's good and would probably rather have the vacation anyway.

I hear people arguing about the "others" who are just as guilty as Manny...is this the sort of argument that you make when YOU fuck up? Do you choose to pass the buck or do you take accountability for your actions? We should be teaching kids the latter.

I hear people arguing that voting for Manny sends the wrong message to kids about the use of PEDS.....what about the message sent by the fans who have voted him FOURTH so far. The message I see is that this is no big deal. This is a big deal.

I hear the people who can't pick up on the satire....sorry I don't know what to say to you.

This is an opportunity for fans to finagle the system so that Bud Selig can do the right thing and condemn the selection on the most public of stages. The effect, we hope, is that everyone (including kids) sees that cheating has consequences and that we are each accountable for our actions. This could also go a long way in rebuilding the game of baseball.

  53. I wouldn't want to misquote Zach de la Rocha so that's, "...take the power back."

Also: If Selig had stones he's make a ruling on this now (a la the Shawne Merriman rule) so that it doesn't over shadow the next six weeks of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  54. This is rediculous! In no way should Manny be allowed to participate in the alstar game. Voting should be based upon stats not popularity. Manny is a disgrace to baseball. A real BUM!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Manny is a cheat and a despicable person. Nonetheless, if he earns the right to play in the All-Star game, those facts should not prevent him. However, the fact that he is missing most of the season before this year’s All-Star game means he in no way deserves the right to be there. Although all this is likely moot as given his track record the scum bag will likely snub the event anyway even if voted in.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I never woulda bet this would happen.

  57. Smart UNHGRAD: since you went to a very nice college, next time READ everything before spouting off, OK?

I agree with you and noted that more than several times.

The purpose of this idea is to create a dialogue so that the rules (PED cheats are allowed to play in the year they are caught) are CHANGED!!!!! Not to mention the conflict in the selection process and the fact that the game counts.

To ALL: please, before you spew hate, just read and think. I don't think Manny should be on the team as a starter either, but if getting him selected FIXES the rules going forward, that's OK by me. Allow yourself to think before posting something hateful, ok?
